Projects / Programs
The Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak Natural Resources Department works hard to raise awareness on all aspects of natural resources management by collecting and managing geographical data, and creating programs to address environmental concerns. This includes subsistence, fisheries, wildlife, habitat enhancement and restoration, contaminants, invasive species, resource conservation, and many other areas. As part of this effort, the Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak Natural Resources Department also participates in several local and regional programs and engages in community outreach and education efforts.
Private donations, grants, and contracts fund the Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak Natural Resources Department programs. Active federal and state grants include:
- U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Indian General Assistance Program;
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Tribal Wildlife Grant;
- U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Alaska Migratory Bird Co-Management Council;
- Bureau of Indian Affairs, Tribal Youth Initiative Program;
- Federal Aviation Administration; and
- State of Alaska, Transportation and Public Facilities.
