Sun'aq Tribe Adopts the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter SPAR

The Sun'aq Tribe adopted the USCG Cutter SPAR as an honorary ship of the Sun’aq Tribe, in recognition of the assistance they provided to commemorate the memory of two tribal members who lost their lives when the vessel, Phyllis S, sank near Kodiak in 1942.

This photo depicts Iver Malutin, 2012 Chairman of the Sun’aq Tribe of Kodiak and LT. Cmdr, Michele Shalllip, 2012 Commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter SPAR. The plaques were presented to commemorate the SPAR’s addition to the Tribe as an honorary ship of the Sun’aq Tribe at a June 2012 dinner held in Kodiak.
