Alutiiq Dancers Build Barabara

A traditional Alutiiq dwelling built into the ground and covered with sod, called a barabara, was built by students in Kodiak (July 30, 1992) for the Kodiak Alutiiq Dancers to use for performances.

The dancers used the barabara to entertain up to 50 people at a time, and helped the Shoonaq' Tribe share its rich culture and heritage with locals and tourists alike.
