Tribe Gains 477 Federal Approval
The Shoonaq' Tribe gained federal approval as a 477 Tribe after applying in 2004. Public Law 102-477 is the Indian Employment, Training and Related Services Demonstration Act of 1992.
Approval as a 477 Tribe allowed Shoonaq' to deliver education, employment, and training related services in a more efficient and effective way for tribal members, and was a major initiative to reorganize the Programs and Education Department.
The following programs were consolidated under the 477 umbrella: Higher Education, Adult Vocational Training, Johnson-O'Malley Programs, and General Assistance.
